About DHS
Digital Health Strategies (DHS) is a Washington, D.C.-based, data- and technology-enabled services company on a mission to activate complex healthcare data to drive growth and improve lives. We partner with leading health systems to grow Share of Health, improving patient retention, care coordination, and health outcomes across the $200 billion digital health market.
We lead with trust, deliver with speed, and think beyond, designing and deploying precision activation programs that help patients access the right care at the right time. Our team is collaborative, visionary, and results-focused, driven by the belief that targeted growth creates real, scalable impact for patients and health systems alike.
Clients include Johns Hopkins Medicine, Geisinger Health, Hackensack Meridian Health, Scripps Health, and Providence Health. DHS was named to TIME’s list of the World’s Top HealthTech Companies of 2025 and the Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing private companies in America in 2023.
Role Purpose
The Account Director, Patient Activation, is a strategic leader and frontline client champion responsible for delivering measurable outcomes across a portfolio of high-impact healthcare accounts. This role sits at the intersection of client strategy, data intelligence, technology, and patient activation. It requires the ability to lead a cross-functional team to operate across four dimensions of strategy simultaneously: understanding the market pressures and business objectives that shape client goals; developing innovative, data-driven client strategies that flex with changing priorities; driving the operational efficiency needed to execute with speed and accuracy; and designing the activation strategies that produce results.
DHS is a technology-enabled services company, and success in this role depends on fully embracing that model, leveraging data, AI, and digital tools not as a complement to the work, but as the foundation of it. This is not a traditional account management role. It is a strategic, technology-forward position for someone who thrives at the intersection of healthcare complexity and precision execution.
Key Responsibilities
Account Leadership & Client Strategy
- Serve as the primary strategic advisor and relationship manager for a portfolio of patient activation accounts, with accountability for client satisfaction, retention, and year-over-year value realization.
- Maintain a working command of the healthcare landscape including Medicare Advantage, Value-based care, clinical enterprise priority areas (cardiovascular, oncology, primary care, orthopedics) and understand where personalized patient activation initiatives fit into broader initiatives.
- Develop comprehensive, data-rooted activation strategies and client roadmaps that flex with clients’ changing priorities, translating complex data and program performance into clear, forward-looking recommendations.
- Lead client presentations and stakeholder engagements with confidence, translating complex data and program performance into clear strategic recommendations.
- Partner with the Product team to apply use case frameworks and best practices to client-specific needs, ensuring strategies are both innovative and scalable.
Data Analysis & Audience Strategy
- Partner closely with the DHS Data team to analyze complex patient and health plan datasets, derive actionable insights, and inform audience segmentation and activation strategy.
- Translate data into patient personas, behavioral phenotypes, and journey-based communications tailored to healthcare audiences.
- Apply a continuous improvement mindset by using A/B testing, performance tracking, and iterative refinement to drive program ROI and strengthen client outcomes.
Activation Strategy & Program Execution
- Design and lead end-to-end patient activation strategies across multi-channel programs including email, direct mail, SMS, patient portal messaging, and care team outreach, with clear accountability for activation performance and results.
- Develop high-value activation approaches for clinical care teams, including enablement tools, outreach frameworks, and training resources that translate patient data insights into scalable, high-impact programs.
- Collaborate with Direct Response Activation, Creative Services, Data, and Technology teams to ensure seamless, high-quality program delivery from strategy through deployment.
Operational Strategy & Execution
- Own account scopes and budgets, ensuring delivery of high-quality work within contractual parameters and timelines, with a relentless focus on speed and accuracy.
- Leverage AI tools and technology platforms to improve the efficiency, consistency, and quality of account management and program delivery, treating technology as a core enabler, not a supplement.
- Actively contribute to internal workgroups focused on workflow improvement, standardization, and operational scalability.
Team Leadership & Collaboration
- Lead and mentor a cross-functional team, fostering a culture of accountability, strategic thinking, and professional growth.
- Collaborate fluidly across Product, Data, Technology, Activation, and Growth teams to bring the full depth of DHS capabilities to bear for each client.
- Maintain working knowledge of healthcare marketing regulations, including HIPAA, CMS, and TCPA, integrating compliance into all strategic and tactical decisions.
