Manager, Philanthropy Activation
Reports to: Associate Vice President, Philanthropy Activation
Role Purpose
The Manager, Philanthropy Activation supports the prospect research, major gift pipeline, and data insights activation work our clients depend on. You will help build and refine the tools and processes behind that work, partnering across our data, technology, and client strategy & service teams to turn donor and patient data into something a gift officer can act on.
This is a foundational hire in a department DHS is actively building, which means you will have real input into what we create and the best ways to support our clients. There is a genuine growth path for this role as the department scales.
Key Responsibilities
Data Intelligence + Client Insights
- Generate the data intelligence and reporting our client strategy & service team needs to advise clients and help shape the plan for how each client puts that intelligence to use.
- Maintain performance dashboards and review donor qualification outputs for accuracy and practitioner usability before they reach a client.
- Flag anomalies and trends, and surface where a data output is not translating into gift officer action.
- Support the development of cross-client benchmarks and data intelligence to identify trends.
Prospect Research + Pipeline Support
- Support prospect research and major gift pipeline work across DHS’s philanthropy client portfolio.
- Help configure and refine the tools that connect grateful patient and donor data to gift officer workflows.
- Bring a practitioner’s eye to the ongoing development of DHS’s data intelligence products.
Cross-Functional Partnership
- Partner across data, technology, deployment, and client strategy & service teams to keep projects moving without needing to escalate for logistics.
Qualifications
Required Experience & Education
- Up to five years of experience in fundraising operations, prospect research, development services, or a closely related function, ideally within healthcare philanthropy or nonprofit fundraising.
- Experience with fundraising data and reporting tools: a CRM (Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce, or similar), a prospect research platform (iWave, DonorSearch, or similar), or campaign reporting infrastructure.
- A track record of managing projects across multiple stakeholders, even when ownership is ambiguous.
- Bachelor’s degree.
Preferred Experience, Skills & Certifications
- Graduate coursework in nonprofit management, public administration, health administration, or data analytics.
- CFRE progress, Apra, AHP, AFP or other engagement with the philanthropy field, specifically in healthcare.
- Experience in a consulting, professional services, technology, or multi-client services environment.
Professional Attributes
- Data fluent and proactive. Comfortable inside a dashboard, and quick to notice when a number doesn’t add up.
- Able to bridge theory and practice. You have been near enough to gift officer work, prospect research, or development services to understand what practitioners need from data and how they use it.
- A builder. You’re motivated by creating systems and processes for a growing function in a fastpaced environment.
- Curious about AI-enabled tools and how they can accelerate this kind of work, and quick to pick up new ones.
- A clear communicator, equally at ease in a team meeting, with a client-ready summary, and process documentation.
